Wine & Dine 2010

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a movement of professional engineers, students, overseas volunteer staff, and community members from across Canada. Our Windsor chapter’s Wine and Dine fundraiser is our largest annual event aimed at bringing in funds to send a University of Windsor student overseas.
EWB is a registered Canadian charity with the fundamental goal to end extreme poverty in Africa. We work to create opportunities for rural Africans to access clean water, generate an income from humble farms and have improved access to services and infrastructure they need to improve their lives. We are dedicated to finding widespread, sustainable resolutions to extreme poverty in Africa, helping communities find solutions for a better future. In addition, we advocate in Canada with 34 chapters facilitating change in communities across the country and striving to empower residents of Canada to take positive actions towards transparent, effective, and equal human development.
On Friday January 29th 2010 we are holding our Wine and Dine fundraising event. The fundamental purpose of this fundraiser is to raise the money to send a University of Windsor student overseas to do development work. Upon return the student will share her/his experiences on and off campus through presentations, workshops, and outreach events.

We are expecting approximately 200 people to attend the event. The keynote speaker is the Co-CEO and co-founder of Engineers Without Borders, George Roter. We are aiming to get publicity, and impact those who attend.
George became interested in international development while completing his Bachelor’s in Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Excited by the role of appropriate technologies in development he co-founded EWB in 2000 as a way to tap into the Canadian engineering community in the fight against global poverty. George is a frequent speaker at conferences and events across North America and was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2005. In 2004 he was awarded a prestigious Action Canada Fellowship on public policy, adding to previous awards for his work with EWB. He has been featured by TIME Magazine as one of Canada’s next generation of social leaders.
We thank you for your support as EWB relies on the support of donations, membership and involvement in order to win the fight against poverty. Financial support runs our organization and funds our developmental work. Our Wine and Dine is our largest fundraiser and your contributions are vital.
Yours respectfully,
2010 Wine and Dine Committee
